What began as growing Shiitake mushrooms on 300 logs has grown to a laying yard of over 1,000 logs for Shiitakes, beds of Wine Cap, logs and stumps growing Oysters. Site selection is one of the first things to be analyzed when deciding what crop to grow. With the vast majority of this farm being covered in mature hardwoods and eastern red cedar, growing mushrooms outdoors through log cultivation in the shade of trees was a way to complement the existing resources.
In 2017, the farm began indoor cultivation of Oyster mushroom varieties and they will be expanding this operation. The mushrooms are GAP Certified, delicious, and healthy protein options also loaded with Vitamin D. No chemicals of any kind are used in the production or harvesting of the mushrooms.
We are in the process of becoming Organic Certified for our outdoor production.
